42 Years Ago: Zeppelin at the Aud

Led Zeppelin’s 1973 tour came to Buffalo on July 15th.  The show has been widely bootlegged with a few cover examples below.

J.P. was at the show and files this review:

Led Zeppelin graced our city with their presence a total of 3 times.  The last of the 3 visits was 42 years ago (7/15).  They were in town to support the “Houses of the Holy” album.  The House ( ‘the Aud’)  shook 17 thousand of us “holy ones” with the opening chords of “Rock and Roll” during which Jimmy Page’s guitar strap broke!

With a roadie twice Pagey’s size crawling all over him trying to fix that strap, the guitar God never missed a note!  Yes there was the cherry bomb thrown on stage which prompted Robert Plant to call him a “j-rk -off”, but the one cherry bomb throwing bad apple didn’t ruin the mood for the rest of us. From the opening chords of “Rock and Roll”, to the final song, “The Ocean” we were in Led Zeppelin heaven.

After the final note of that final tune, Robert said, “Thank you, Buffalo. We’ll see you next time!”  Little did we know there would be no next time.
