ON THIS DATE: AUG 31, 1973: Rolling Stones Release ‘Goats Head Soup’!

Amidst the surge of rock music throughout the late sixties into the early seventies, the Rolling Stones emboldened their title of “the Worlds Greatest Rock & Roll Band” by rattling off chart-smashing album after album and this decade proved no different.

Today in 1973, the band released ‘Goats Head Soup’, their iconic, 13th (US) studio album that would end up selling 3x platinum (& counting) and also be their final album produced by their longtime, successful producer, Jimmy Miller. ‘Angie’ led the way as the first single and now fans would have a new favorite ballad from the Stones!

Although it was met with differing critical reviews, ‘Goats Head Soup’ would prove to be yet another stepping stoneĀ in the commercial & cultural success of the Rolling Stones, helping to string along a lengthy wire of hits that few bands would ever rival.

This album also would be re-released in 2020 to feature dozens of bonus & live tracks, as well as demos and unreleased tracks. One of the songs on it, ‘Scarlet’, features Led Zeppelin’s own Jimmy Page strumming his magic alongside Mick & the gang.
