This year, ZZ Top celebrated its 50th anniversary with a major tour, as well as an official documentary titled ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band from Texas that premiered in August and has been screened in more than 150 theaters across the U.S. Now the film is set to be released as a DVD/Blu-ray set on February 28, 2020.

The movie features new interviews with the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers’ three members — singer/guitarist Billy Gibbons, bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard — plus rare archival footage, animated segments and conversations with celebrity fans Billy Bob Thornton and Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme.

ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band from Texas charts ZZ Top’s history from before Gibbons started growing his famous beard through the band’s rise to rock stardom.  It also includes an intimate performance filmed especially for the doc at historic Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas.

The DVD and Blu-ray also boasts bonus features, including full performances filmed at Gruene Hall and archival footage of ZZ Top performing between 1976 and 1981.

ZZ Top: That Little Ol’ Band from Texas was directed by Sam Dunn, whose credits also include Metal: A Headbanger’s JourneyRush: Beyond the Lighted Stage and Super Duper Alice Cooper.

ZZ Top will wind down 2019 with a December 29 show in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a New Year’s Eve concert in Durant, Oklahoma. The band also has a few 2020 gigs lined up. Check out their full schedule at ZZop.com.
